About the Author

David R. Aldridge is a jazz drummer based in Austin, Texas. David has written for DRUM!, Modern Drummer, Keyboard, Jazziz and DownBeat magazines.

 

David teaches in Austin and conducts binary rhythm pattern theory seminars based on The Elements of Rhythm series. He is also a composer and an airplane flight instructor.

 

A native of Austin, Texas, David attended Towson University (Towson, Maryland), where he studied Percussion and played in big bands directed by Hank Levy. While in high school (Glasgow, Delaware), David first met Hank and was introduced to what would become his lifelong interest in exploring odd time signatures.

 

David has studied drum set with Terry Bozzio (whose lessons inspired The Elements of Rhythm), Peter Erskine, Jim Chapin and Joe Brancato. His music performance interests focus on odd meters and polyrhythms, and his academic interests include music cognition and neuromusicology.
